Arts & Entertainment: Poetry Feature - Rob Robertson

As a writer (and an avid reader), I’m a fan of the arts. Expressing yourself in whatever creative arena you flow best in is one of the most impressive things I think a person can do.

And Rob Robertson does it WELL. Not to mention he’s just an impressive human being. A native of New Orleans, LA, Rob is an exceptional writer with a background in Speech and Theatre from Grambling State University in Louisiana and Texas Southern University of Houston, Texas. He is known for his subtle approach to capture the listener's mind as his poetry is being read. His hobbies are reading, writing and listening to Sunday morning “old skool” jams every week. He can currently lives in Houston, TX. Check out one of my favorite pieces of his below:

Nettie Mae
R. Robertson Esq.

Nettie Mae was a delta queen
With looks so grand
When she came around
With a walk that was silky clean
The men’s nature was never down
But then she met Mr. Leroy
And then he became her boy-toy
What we was told that she did enjoy
His loving way better than the other boys
But the one thing that she didn’t know
Was that Mr. Leroy was an acid fiend
The other thing that she didn’t know
Was women he love to beat
He did, he did… always……
Nettie Mae she came around
The face she had was black and blues
The brother man’s nature down
Not so pretty she felt the fool
Then she got to wreaking
Of acid and oral pleasing
Along with Mr. Leroy beatings
An ugly sight is defeating
Nettie Mae, well she didn’t know
That she’ll be an acid queen
Living life with Mr. Leroy blows
Pretty face that’s blue and green
Now the girl is all washed
Mr. Leroy left and now she feel stuck
Lord it’s hard being queen of the delta
What will ever become of her
But the one thing that she didn’t know
Was that Mr. Leroy was an acid fiend
The other thing that she didn’t know
Was women he love to beat
He did, he did… always……
